pop-a.xls

If you use Microsoft Excel, I have prepared a spread sheet to project the number of Israelites that existed by the time the book of Ezra was recorded.

The blue text below represents a constant. It is information from the scriptures.

You can do nothing here to change this page, but when you go to the spread sheet you can enter your own variables in CELL B.

You can only change the variables marked in red below, but in the spread sheet instead of saying A4 it says VAR.

You enter the variables in the cell to the right of the cells marked VAR.. variable.

i.e. If you guess the average life expectancy in the book of numbers was 50 you would type 50 in the Cell B5.

I have write protected the cells and you can only change the numbers in the B column where it is a variable.

A             B                             C

A1

20

Num 1:2 Israelites (from 11 tribes) over 20 were numbered

A2

22000

Num 3:39, Male Levites total

A3

603550

Num 1:46, Males of 11 tribes over 20 years old

A4

50

Average life expectancy

A5

0.4

% of Israelites under 20 A1 / A4

A6

241420

Number of Israelites under 20 of the 11 tribes A5*A3

A7

844970

Total males of 11 tribes A6+A3

A8

866970

Total males of 11 tribes and the Levites A7+A2

A9

A10

50

What % of the population were females

A11

866970

Number of females A10/100*A8*2

A12

A13

1733940

Total Israelites when numbered A11+A8

A14

A15

66

Genesis 4:26 Number of Israelites who came into Egypt not including the wives of 11 princes

A16

20

Could be more than 1 wife each, how many wives of the 11 princes of Israel do you guess

A17

90

Total of Jacobs family B15+B16+4 (4=Joseph, Esenath and Joseph's 2 sons)

A18

45

Females in Egypt to begin the Israelite nation B17*(B10/100)

A19

A20

430

Exod 12:40, The number of years the Israelites remained in Egypt

A21

A generation is the time it takes a female to be born and complete her own reproduction cycle

A22

25

What is the average reproduction cycle you estimate (15-40) years

A23

17

Number of generations in captivity B20/B22

A24

A25

population when counted in Numbers / total females entering Egypt

A26

38532

Average number of descendants of each woman entering Egypt when they left B13/B18

A27

A28

population of females in Numbers x the average number of children per generation B11*B26

A29

33406088040

The number of Israelites that would exist by the book of Ezra

A30

A31

19266

Increase in Israelite population from entry to exit B13/B17

A32

A33

74600

Num 1:27 Males over 20 tribe of Judah on exit

A34

1

Males over 20 tribe of Judah on entry to Egypt (Judah-Joseph's brother) not more than 5 max

A35

74600

Increase in males tribe of Judah over 20 from entry to exit B33/B34

A36

A37

Benjamites smallest tribe 9:21, males over 20 numbered 2 Chr 14:8 200,080

A38

The other 11 tribes destroyed their towns and killed their families. Judges 20:12-21:23

A39

When numbering males *IN* Israel, there were more Benjamites than 10 other tribes

A40

If they were the smallest of the tribes, the other 10 tribes were living outside of Israel

A41

A42

The ONLY tribe left some what in tact still in Israel was the tribe of Judah

A43

Using Nelsons charts I estimated it was about 400 years from the exodus to 2 Sam 24:9

A44

400

What is your estimate of years from when the Israelites were counted in Numbers to 2 Sam

A45

500000

Tribe of Judah - Number of males over 20 in 2 Sam 24:9

A46

6.702412869

Increase in the tribe of Judah B45/B33 From Numbers to 2 Sam

A47

Because the tribe of Judah was the only remaining tribe some what in tact by 2 Sam

A48

We will use the population growth to arrive at average growth and total Israelites by 2 Sam

A49

11621582

Total Israelites when David was king B13*B46

A50

9887642

More than when were numbered in the book of numbers

A51

24719

Average increase per year B46/B44

A52

Using Nelsons charts I estimated it was 800 years from Numbers to Ezra

A53

800

How many years from the book of Numbers to Ezra

A54

21509224

Number of Israelites by the book of Ezra B53*B51

A55

42360

Ezra 2:64 Jews who returned to Israel 42,360

A56

21466864

Israelites who remained in the 127 provinces and never returned to Israel B54-B55

The math principals are a constant. The outcome of the projection could only be altered by my prejudice, that is why invite any one to put their own variables in the fields.

The first variable field will look like this

A ..

B

                          C

VAR

50

Average life expectancy

To the right of VAR you add your variables. The numbers in the variable fields now are my guess. The object is for you to correct my numbers you think are in error.

Before you go to the spread sheet, here is the information you must look up to enter into the variable fields.

B4 When the Israelites left Egypt, what is your guess of the average life expectancy?

B10 What % of the Israelite population were females?

B16 Joseph was already in Egypt with his wife Asenath. His father and 11 brothers followed. What is your guess of the number of wives the other 11 princes of Israel brought with them.

B22 The average number of years it takes a female to be born and produce her last child.

B34 The number of males over 20 years old from the tribe of Judah when the 11 princes of Israel went into Egypt.

B44 The number of years between the time the Israelites were counted in the book of Numbers to the time the book of 2 Samuel was written.

B53 The number of years between the time the Israelites were counted in the book of Numbers until the time the book of Ezra was written.

Take me to the spread sheet I have my variables ready
